Healthy Lunch on the Go

I haven't had a meal plan since sophomore year and sometimes, I must admit, I wish I had one. However, I re-discovered Tupperware and haven't looked back since. I went to Trader Joe's (surprise, surprise) this morning & bought the ingredients to make one of my favorite lunches/dinners. All the ingredients can be purchased at Trader Joe's.
  • Chimichurri rice with vegetables
  • Grilled chicken (pre-cooked)
  • Frozen broccoli florets
  • Frozen asparagus spears
  • Tomatoes
Start by boiling the broccoli & asparagus in a pot. While the vegetables boil, saute the tomatoes & you can use the same pan to heat up the pre-cooked grilled chicken. The chimichurri rice is frozen so you just need to pop it in the microwave as instructed. Once all the ingredients are cooked, cover the bottom of the Tupperware with chimichurri rice and then pile on the grilled chicken, tomatoes, broccoli & asparagus.
I love this recipe because it's delicious & I can take it with me. I'm definitely a girl on the go so this meal works out really well for me: I get my protein as well as my veggies in. What're your favorite recipes when you're on the move?

Thirsty Thursday: The Hurricane

3. Shake well.
4. Strain into a glass.
5. Garnish with a cherry & an orange slice.

Living Social Now in Gtown & Foggy Bottom

I'm a subscriber of Living Social deals but most of the time, they're not for restaurants & places that I can easily access. Being a DCist without a car, I rely on the Metro, the bus & my own two feet for transportation. So I was thrilled to say the least when I saw the email today from Living Social announcing they will now have deals in Georgetown & Foggy Bottom! I can't wait & you bet I'll blog about it!

Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies

Whenever I come home from D.C., I always bake these cookies for my daddy. They're his favorite & are really fun to bake!

Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
additional sugar
Hershey's chocolate kisses (unwrapped)

Directions:
1. Mix shortening, sugars, egg, vanilla & peanut butter.
2. Add dry ingredients & milk.
3. Shape dough into small, identical balls & roll in the additional sugar.
4. Place on ungreased cooking sheet.
5. Bake 10 minutes at 350.
6. Place a kiss in the center of each cookie until the edges crack.

It's a simple, yet delicious recipe. Enjoy!

Spread the Word to End the Word

The campaign to Spread the Word to End the Word is a cause near & dear to my heart because of my brother, who was born with significant developmental disabilities. I absolutely cannot stand when people throw around the word "retard" or "retarded," there is no difference between the "R word" and any other slur. So please, the next time you catch yourself about to joke that someone's retarded, simply don't.

Wish List

I found this on Etsy and am pretty tempted to purchase it: my bedspread is Parisian themed and this would go perfectly with my room's decor!

My Trip to the Driving Range

I’ve been dying to learn how to play golf so tonight, my daddy took me to the driving range to work on the basics. My experience in golf has been limited to miniature golf so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Honestly, I thought I’d be hitting more air than golf balls on my first trip. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to hit the golf ball straight and I’m proud to say no one sustained any injuries!
I’m looking up driving ranges in D.C. now because I had a great time & could see going to the driving range as a fun way to blow off some steam.
Now, I just need to find some preppy golf equipment. Do you play golf or are interested in learning the game? Do you have tips for a beginner?

Monogram Monday: Pink Dog Bags

I came across Pink Dog Bags on Twitter (it seems as if all my latest obsessions are discovered there!) and I fell in love with their tote bags. I use tote bags for school so I'm always on the lookout for these bags, this bag is definitely on my wish list! I adore the pink dogs with the green collars, it's a cute touch. The only way these bags could get any cuter? If they were monogrammed, of course!
Naturally, I tweeted at Pink Dog Bags (@PinkDogBags) asking if they had a monogramming option and lo & behold, they do! Fabulous!
They also have a petite tote bag in the same design that would be perfect for the preppy gal on the go!
